Voyeurism

 -->

Voyerism - The pleasure the audience gains from watching a person or people engaging in sexual activity or sexual behaviors.

Goodwin states that female performers are sexually objectified by camera work and editing with fragmented body shots emphasising a sexualised treatment of the performer.
It is usually a men’s controlling gaze towards women that has been sexually objectified.
Voyeurism is often used to help sell a product and create audience interest.
A majority of music videos now days use voyeurism to sell the star, one example is Eric Prydz ‘Call on me’.

In this music video the first shots are not of the woman's face but of her body in tight, revealing clothing.

Camera angles are also used to exaggerate and emphasise the female body.

 This, along with the provocative dance moves and sexual gestures, captures a male gaze and therefore allows him to feel pleasure from it. It makes men feel that it is okay to watch because a man is in the video watching / leering at the women.

The camera is often on level with their groin area which gets a lot more camera time than their faces.

Also uses the notions of looking as there is mirrors around the room.

There is some focus on the female gaze as there is a guy in the room, although he is not dressed as provocatively as the females are. The low angle shot makes him look powerful in a room full of women.

This music video is post modern in that it parodies .....
Ultimately this is used to sell the artist and in turn sell the music.
